How I start….

Immersion in nature is always a trigger in my creative process. Often things happen at a subliminal level. Colours and textures seep into my subconscious and will emerge in a painting sometimes weeks later.

The coast around here is very expressive. The weather can change in an instant and we can go through several seasons in a day. There are lots of wild beaches to explore and just a little way inland there are tall forests and a whole lot of granite to climb

My sketchbook always accompanies me on my walks. I usually take a small backpack with some basic art supplies and inevitably come back with sketches that will always bring back those precious moments spent close to nature

Inspired by a walk I took way out in the hills, this painting still evokes in me the feel of the place and the day.
