Contemporary Landscapes and Seascapes
I find much of my inspiration while out walking in nature and get very excited by the patterns, colours and textures found within the landscape and how I might translate these into my work.
The beautiful colours and shapes found in the bush, the ever changing skies and the ancient forests and wild coastline where I live all provide me with a feast of inspiration.
I like to paint nature in all her moods. My aim is to convey the feeling of a place, to draw the viewer in, in order to create a tangible visceral connection.
I work intuitively. I don’t see myself as separate from my environment. I am part of that place, wherever it is. I am the sea, the sky, the woods….
I let it all speak to my heart and to my emotions. This is what comes out in my painting.
As I paint, my senses are totally immersed. I can enter the world of the painting and let it work through me. It is a collaborative process!
I have worked with various mediums over the years but my current favourite is oil. I love the creamy texture of oil paint. Often I’ll mix it with cold wax to enhance the textural effects in my landscapes and seascapes.
